A lit canvas tent at twilight is one of camping's great photographs, and one of its trickiest. The trick is to balance the warm interior against the cool sky.
Shoot in the blue window
Start ten minutes after sunset, while the sky still holds colour. The tent glows without blowing out and the horizon keeps its detail.
Steady the frame
Use a tripod or a rock and a rolled-up jacket. Longer exposures mean sharper light and softer shadows.
