The two hours around sunset hold every kind of light a camp photographer needs. Working through them with a plan beats chasing shots at random.

An hour before sunset: wide establishing shots

Shoot the whole camp in open shade or soft directional light, before the color gets dramatic and pulls focus from the layout.

Sunset itself: silhouettes and rim light

Shoot toward the sun for silhouettes, then turn ninety degrees for a warm, raking light across the canvas.

Blue hour: the lit interior

Once the sky settles to deep blue, the lit tent finally reads as brighter than its surroundings. This is the shot most evenings are missing.
