How to Clean and Waterproof Organic Canvas Tents

Organic canvas is a living material. Treat it well and a good tent will outlast almost everything else you own.

Cleaning

Brush off dry dirt first. For marks, use lukewarm water and a soft brush. Avoid detergents, which strip the natural finish and compromise water resistance.

Drying

Never pack a damp tent. Pitch it fully in the sun, lift the skirts for airflow and let every seam dry completely before it goes back in the bag.

Re-proofing

Every few seasons, re-proof with a wax-based treatment applied to clean, dry canvas. Focus on seams and the roof, then let it cure for a full day before use.
